Ricky Najah and Nick Phillips will meet to contest the Chalk Farm Pool League’s singles championship final in August

A TOTAL of 32 pool players walked into the Hurricane Room in King’s Cross on Monday evening, but by the time the chalk dust had settled in the early hours of Tuesday morning, only two remained.

Rivals Nick Phillips and Ricky Najah are the potters in the frame to pocket the Chalk Farm Pool League’s singles championship. It will be a fitting fixture when it eventually takes place this summer as their respective teams – King’s Cross Hurricanes and Hurricane Potters – are the two sides going toe-to-toe for the Division One title.

Both players had to show their battling spirit on the green baize to book their place in the final. Having reached the semis, they were pushed all the way in their respective best-of-five-frames showdowns – with Phillips beating DOB Dynamos’ Bob Love 3-2, while Najah won by the same scoreline against King’s Cross Hurricanes captain Alp Sezer.

League chairman Shaun Pollard said: “Of course, all the players want to win the big trophies with their respective teams, but the silverware they really want to get their hands on is the singles championship. The final will be played in August and it promises to be one to remember.”
