Camden Council said it is ‘exploring alternative supported housing options’

A WOMAN who has been crying for help on a council estate for more than six months is being supported, the council said.

Several residents raised concerns about the appeals that routinely happen late in the evening on the Maitland Park Estate.

The New Journal has heard audio recordings of shouting that has sent shivers down the spine of neighbours who fear she has been neglected.

One woman, whose home backs onto the estate, said: “This has been going on since June last year, and since January it is almost daily. There are days when you don’t get it. It is very distressing because you fear that she has been abandoned and that’s obviously the worst thing. I think there is a duty of care that has not been seen to.

“There is clearly somebody in terrible distress. Perhaps she is getting care in the daytime, but nobody is going in the evening.

“It seems ridiculous and I understand social services are really on their knees. But for nearly a year this woman has been crying out for help.”

She added: “But day after day it starts to affect you too, if you have had a bad day and there is constant screaming. A concerned group has come together and were given an adult social care contact who they said no longer responded to them but had told them the council had “opened a case”.

Marlene Levoy, who lives in Maitland Park Estate, said: “This woman screams for hours on end ‘help me’, ‘help us’. “When residents call the ambulance or the police they refuse to come out.”

A Camden Council spokesperson said: “We are actively supporting this resident, including exploring alternative supported housing options.”
