CAMDEN Town WFC captain Jose Shand said her players were starting to show their full potential after leading the club to their first victory of the season on Sunday in the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League.

Town had been struggling to turn their positive performances into points, and would have been considered by some as underdogs going into the weekend when they travelled to a Comets side boasting four wins out of four.

But Town ignored the form guide, along with the absence of a number of key players through injury, to earn a potentially campaign-igniting 1-0 win thanks to a clinical finish from new signing Maxine Borden, who found the back of the net with a powerful shot from the edge of the area.

“I am incredibly proud of the team and how we showed great resilience in a tough game against Comets,” said Shand.

“It was the win we needed to kick off our season properly – it’s only a matter of time before our talented group of players really start showing our full potential.”

With two more away days up next, Town chairman Richard Mahoney already has one eye on the club’s next home game at Wingate & Finchley FC’s Maurice Rebak Stadium.

He said: “It was a great result against a team that were unbeaten this season, so we are really pleased with how the game went on the day and our overall performance.

“We play our next two games on the road, away to London Academicals this coming Sunday and then we travel to Richmond & Kew on Sunday, October 29.

“We are looking forward to our next home game on Sunday, November 5, against Regent’s Park Rangers. Please take a look at our social media accounts for links to free tickets and come and support the team – it will be a great match!”
