A WOMAN has died and her husband is still in hospital after a fire broke out in their home last week.
Residents in Briary Close, Fellows Road, Belsize Park, said they were deeply saddened by the loss of a “lovely” person. The elderly couple used to be seen going for a walk around a nearby green.
A resident, who asked not to be named, said she didn’t see any flames, but saw multiple police cars, fire engines and ambulances parked outside the home.
She noticed what looked like a “burnt tea trolley” outside. She didn’t know the person who died. She added: “The next day the fire brigade were very good because they came round and wanted to know if we had smoke alarms and they tested them.”
Firefighters were called to a house last Wednesday at 10.38am and the blaze was brought under control by 12.07pm.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Sadly, a woman has died following a house fire on Fellows Road in Primrose Hill. Part of a bedroom on the first floor of the property was damaged by fire.
“Firefighters brought a woman out of the building who was taken to hospital, where she sadly later died. A man was also taken to hospital.” The cause of the fire is under investigation.
