Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony is a staple of the oratorio circuit: a big sing with high impact, and sweeping in the way it sets a visionary text by Walt Whitman that compares a voyage on the ocean with the soul’s journey to the realms of the eternal.

This Saturday it gets done by Islington Choral Society who are on a journey of their own – not quite to eternity but to Sloane Square where they perform the piece in the Arts & Crafts splendour of Holy Trinity Church.

They travel with music director Michael Waldron. And on arrival they meet up with two eminent soloists – soprano Claire Rutter and baritone Stephan Loges – whose presence alone should make it worth going to.
