Spurs are top of the league

AFTER two injury time goals against Sheffield United, the worst VAR mistake in Premier League history spiking Liverpool and a whole load of matches against all the teams at the bottom of the table, Tottenham Hotspur are – at last! – top of the league.

Congratulations to Ange Postecoglu, who has achieved all of this with his hand superglued to the side of his face in press conferences.

You might never have thought it would be possible, particularly if you cast your minds back just a couple of months to find Spurs’ fans in the most intemperate of moods.

There they were with their “Enic out” flags and tweets about how Daniel Levy had wronged them all by selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich so close to the end of the summer transfer window.

Everything was terrible and fans wanted a rebellion.

And yet here we are and you can hardly here a peep of resistance. It’s very reminiscent of the Manchester United colour scheme you should all know by now.

That’s the traditional red and white scarves when United are winning; the rebellious green and yellow ones when they are losing.

So… Spurs, are you all Levy in now?

LET’S not worry too much about Tottenham in a Champions League week when Europe’s elite teams were busy playing other elite teams.

Spurs were watching The Great British Bake Off.

That all said, the mess surrounding Arsenal’s goalkeepers does not reflect well on a club which is meant to be making precision choices to get the team back among the silverware.

Of all the positions on the field, there was no need to tinker with Aaron Ramsdale’s place between the sticks – particularly when other areas clearly needed investment.

The Gunners were in need of a reliable centre forward, so bought a goalkeeper. There is a shortage of attacking options after letting, um, a reliable centre forward go to Monaco and signing Kai Havertz, who is playing as he always played at Chelsea, like a distracted teenager with an exam on Thursday.

For those who think Arteta is a new messiah, let us not forget this is the guy who signed Willian, Pablo Mari and Runarsson, and seemed to insist on playing David Luiz whatever he did. It’s not all perfect.

He’s a manager who has spent £70 million on creating a goalkeeping headache for himself when he could have had Emil Martinez, the World Cup winner, all along.
