You really want Spurs news?

OPINION: Amid Arsenal’s title challenge, it’s true, I haven’t talked about Spurs very much in recent weeks

WE had a message to the newsroom last month from a disgruntled reader complaining that our newspaper was too left-wing – and also too biased towards Arsenal.

Where, they wondered, is all the Spurs coverage?

Now, we are here to talk about football and not politics, so I will leave the first point of contention to another day.

But, yes, on number two – the complainant is absolutely right: I have not talked about Spurs enough in recent weeks.

Caught up in Arsenal being the only team appearing gutsy enough to challenge the Manchester City monster, we have neglected to check on how Tottenham Hotspur are getting on.

So I’ve gone away and done some research and I can give you an update as to how they have done in an attempt to increase the Spurs content in the paper.

So… I’ve discovered Tottenham have finished the season eighth in the Premier League table – 24 points behind Arsenal. They have not qualified for any European football at all, not even the Europa Conference League thing that West Ham thinks is important.

This, my research has found, is slightly embarrassing because Spurs once put a poster up all around London telling people that Tottenham was the only place in the city where Champions League football could be watched.

The club’s fans also made up a song about how lesser teams play football on Thursday nights.

I have checked on the managerial situation at the club as there is usually some news to report about Spurs in this regard and to my shock I can reveal that they do not actually have a first team coach and several of the people they wanted to appoint have decided to work elsewhere.

There was one man who very much did want to manage Spurs and the fans loved him above all else – his name is Mauricio Pochettino – but the Tottenham board decided not to call him.

So, he has joined Chelsea.

What about the players? Harry Kane has scored 30 goals again. Congratulations to him.

But my extensive research and Googling shows that the Tottenham supporters are now worried he might leave. They are hoping a mural may convince him to stay. Five years ago, I saw on the internet, Kane said he would be gutted if he had not won a trophy with Tottenham within the next three years.

Maybe we should get back to the Arsenal news. It can be short. The Gunners have been great.
